Take a Walk in the Park Day

When : Always March 30th

Don't miss out on " Take a Walk in the Park Day." It is an opportunity for exercise and relaxation. Are you stressed out? A walk in the park is just what the doctor ordered. Its calming and therapeutic.

Taken after a busy work day, it helps clear your mind and re-energize you.
Or, take the walk during lunch and you will find the afternoon of work goes by quicker and easier.

A walk in the park will likely be the most enjoyable part of your day. However, make sure to do so with a clear mind and with your eyes open. In addition to avoiding a fall, open eyes will allow you to take in the beauty of nature's wonders: flowers, and trees, birds, and wildlife.

Aahh, what a joyful and soothing day this is filled with the beauty of nature!

Come Josephine, In My Flying Machine

Today is National Joe Day.

National Joe Day is a chance to change your name, if only for today.

Many people do not like their given name. They wish they could change it. A few actually do. On National Joe Day, it is perfectly okay to have everyone call you "Joe". Why Joe, and not Bob or Mike or Radcliffe? Simply, because everyone likes the name Joe. If you are called Joe today, we know that you're "Joe cool"!

This works well for the men out there. What about the ladies? We suggest you choose Josephine or Jody.

So today, I can live my dream of having the name Josephine. It's my favorite.

I won't answer to anything else.

Are you a Liberal, Conservative or ...a Southerner?

(Courtesy of Rosie)

Here is a little test that will help you decide........

Question:You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, an Islamic Terrorist with a huge knife comes around the corner, locks eyes on you, screams obscenities, praises Allah, raises the knife, and charges. You are carrying a Glock .40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family.

What do you do?

Liberal's Answer: Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a clu and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation? Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it? Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children? Is it possible he would be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Should I call 9-1-1? Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior. This is all so confusing! ! I need to debate this with some friends for few days and try to come to a consensus.

Conservative's Answer:......BANG!

Southerner's Answer:BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click.....(sounds of reloading). BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! click

Daughter: "Nice grouping, Daddy! Were those the Winchester Silver Tips?"

A Holiday Like No Other

Today is National Goof Off Day!

Go ahead...

Goof off!

You have my permission.

Snow

The weatherman said to keep an eye out for snow this afternoon. Yeah, yeah, I know it's March, but SNOW! Here's a little diddy I wrote on the subject:

I love the sound of falling snow,
the whispering...
a constant sound,
hearing each individual snowflake land
saying HEY! Did you miss me?
I'm back from my long long journey,
here to make your morning beautiful.
Not quite a spring rain
not quite a summer wind
close your eyes
breathe in deep
It's saying Merry Christmas melissa
I'm falling just for you
(it's snowing!)

Quote-Worthy

One of my favorite quotes by one of my favorite artists, Brian Andreas...

"My favorite thing is the wind, she said, & my second favorite is chocolate but I just do that so I don't get too skinny & blow away"

Odd

I've realized that if you take the middle staircase in my building, there are 24 steps. If you take either side staircase, there are only 23 steps. I'm feeling a little unbalanced...

Let's Celebrate!

Today math-lovers all around the world are celebrating National Pie Day (pie as in 3.14...today is 3-14...)

My vote is let's celebrate this joyus day and make it National "Pie" Day (as in cherry, apple, rhubarb...)

Ala mode, of course.

Blue skies smiling at me,
Nothing but blue skies do I see.

Bluebirds singin' a song,
Nothing but blue birds all day long.

Sleepy Sleepy

So last night was C-R-A-Z-Y at work! Things were rolling along smoothly, and the finish line was in sight. We were about to close when I noticed the lobby area getting a bit congested. Turns out, a high school baseball team decided to come eat at Cheddars before calling it a night. Party of 40. 15 minutes before closing. What a blast, I tell ya. But the good news! I headed home at midnight (ouch), and counted my earnings (keep in mind that Wednesday night I made it out of there with 15, count it 15 dollars in my pocket.) I made $77 dollars last night! That'll make a late evening worth it, huh? I was pretty stoked about it (Did I just use the word "stoked?" What am I , 13???)
So, yeah, there's my fun (yet profitable) evening! And I still got a load of laundry done when I got home. Go me!

It's the Little Things That Count

I know he's just a little penguin, but he's got such a belief in himself! I wish I could be like that...

Today is a good day. Why is it a good day, you ask? Well, it's Thursday, which means tomorrow is Friday! And on Fridays I get to wear jeans to work.

But this Friday is special, you see. I'm headed back to Abilene. I get to see a huge chunk of family this weekend. And the icing on the cake? I get to eat at JOE'S!!! My favorite pizza ever. And speaking of food, I also get to have AM donuts (the best you'll ever have. I'll even dare to say they are better than Krispy Kreme!)

My grandparents are also giving me a set of dishes this weekend, one they've had for as long as I can remember, and one I have always wanted! I mean, new dishes!

AND!!! Can there even be an AND after all this great stuff? Yes! AND it's beautiful outside! The sun is shining, cool breeze - no dirt blowing in - just gorgeous!

Well, hot damn! It's almost lunch time. Can this day get ANY better?!

Beaten

This afternoon, while I was walking back from lunch, I was attacked. Brutally beaten. Pounded upon. It came out of no where. Didn't even see it coming.

It was a west Texas wind storm. It carried enough sand to fill a desert. It scored my bare legs, blew into my mouth, gritted my eyes, filled my lungs. What a terrible, tragic experience.

I Think I Can!

LIGHTNING BUGS

What is the deal with lightning bugs? I mean, here is this rather ordinary looking flying insect, but wait ... it has a glow-in-the-dark rear end! What was God thinking? I'm sure science has all kinds of explanations about how this fluorescent fanny is useful for mating and other stuff, but why did God choose to make the lightning bug glow? I wonder if when God was creating all the animals and everything around us, he came up with the idea of the lightning bug and said, "The kids are gonna love this."

We know that God loves us enough to create all the things we need to survive, but does God loves us so much He created some things just to make us smile? Just seeing lightning bugs takes me back to those warm summer nights of my youth. I'd be running around the back yard with my empty Mason jar, racing toward the flashing lights all around me. I can still feel the joy and hear the laughter echoing through my memories. Lightning bugs were as much a part of summer as fireworks, fresh tomatoes, and big ice-cold slabs of juicy watermelon. (I also have a theory of why God created watermelon seeds the perfect size to spit, but that is another story.)

God created so much diversity in this world, much more than is needed for mere survival. He made all of this for us, and He wants us to enjoy it. We can get so busy surrounding ourselves with man-made goods that we don't notice the living tapestry God has laid out all around us. I guess lightning bugs do have a purpose after all. They are a reminder of a creative God who loves us so much, He'd even paint the rear end of a bug ... just to see us smile....

One of My Favorites

i carry your heart with me • ee cummings

i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)
i am never without it
(anywhere i go you go, my dear;
and whatever is done by only me is your doing, my darling)
i fear no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet)
i want no world (for beautiful you are my world, my true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life;
which grows higher than the soul can hope or mind can hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the stars apart
i carry your heart (i carry it in my heart)

Yummy!

So last night at work was crazy! It was dead for quite a while, and then we got slammed! I didn't realize why until I saw a lot of people coming in the ash-drawn crosses on their forehead (I forgot it was Ash Wednesday until then.) So it was coming on 11:00 pm, and we still had so much to do. All of a sudden, in walks the manager with two hot pizzas and garlic bread! So we got to have an impromptu pizza party on the boss, at a time when we were all starving and frazzled. What a great end to the night!

YEAH!!!

My favorite verse of Patty Griffin, who I get to see in April:

"May you dream you are dreaming in a warm soft bed
And may the voices inside you that fill you with dread
Make the sounds of thousands of angels instead
Tonight where you might be laying your head
I wish you well"

I can’t wait!!!
